The history of mansard’s appearance counts for about 400 years since French architect Francois Mansar had refused of traditional for the beginning of the seventieth century pointed “Gothic” roofs. It was replaced with a uniform roof for the whole building, having a double slope from each side yet the bottom slope was significantly lower and robust. And though, today it is established that such type of the roof was used in France much earlier, the author of well known Orleans bulk in Blois and the palace of Maisons-Laffitte actively engaged it in the creations and popularized of a mansard. It is difficult to overestimate feasibilities which have opened with the beginning of usage of a garret under a roof as a decent dwelling. Attic is always associated with comfort and cosiness, in childhood we might have seen phantasmagorical illusions all about that sacred place – the attic. One could see journey into the Neverland, find oneself as a hero character of those epic imaginary events if he/she has the spirit of romanticism. Youngsters usually get to love this place since it hides all their lovely toys they used to play before they got a PC, many notes, paintings and diaries which might be left after their school, and lots of other wonderful stuff. The attic is some sort of place where you can have many pleasant memories and emotions. The spirit of romanticism will be totally awarded. Maybe that is the reason why some people like to rebuild their dusty attic into a cosy dwelling in order to immerse to those emotions again.
First of all you should sketch a plan of your future attic. It is good practice to sketch it up altogether with your family or friends. Thus you can get a hue variety of different ideas amongst which you can end up with preferable and optimal results. The other thing is light. Think over which type of light you would prefer – should it be dimmer or brighter in the attic? It might depend on the general atmosphere you might want to preserve in your future attic – dim for more romantic or Halloween styled and bright for playroom for children or celebrations with your friends.
